Pre-Production

Vital to any successful project is transparent and timely dialogue.
What’s your end goal and how do you ‘see’ the finished result…what are going to be the potential distribution channels for the piece?...
These and other discussion points will become the pillars on which the building firmly is constructed, be it a film, promo video..a documentary or interview, all of the above and more.
The creative design flourishes in greatest abundance at this point, inclusive of all authors and designers, which maybe many or a single person – the process is the same; to share your vision and allow us to empower your creativity.
Next step is we communicate back a schedule estimate, incorporating concepts, deliverables, timeline, and cost. As part of the pre-production stage this now forms our blueprint for the project, which is then reviewed, discussed, and agreed, prior to commencement. The storyboard for the piece is then constructed, together with suggested shoot locations and all other associated creative and logistic elements for the project.
Filming
The human eye is truly a masterpiece of creation itself, which after seven millennia has now been emulated in the form of the modern-day digital film and photography cameras.
The Directors of Photography’s (DOP) ammunition supersedes those technologies of yesteryears, but nevertheless their art remains the same. Lens choice, writing with light, positioning, movement were all just as relevant in the making of classic movies and documentaries as they are today.
There are now great new tools to aid the process; jam-sync the timecode from the Sound Devices Mix Pre, cable up the Deity TC -1’s into the multicam array – shoot, camera and digital clapperboard action!

Audio & Sound Design
Bring the wealth of musical knowledge and audio production into the world of film, opens up other dimensions for videography and film production. Depending on the approach, there can be two distinct areas of interest: one, the capture of and in the moment, and two, the post-production audio creation/editing/mastering.
Where a mastered musical piece is being used to facilitate the film (i.e. a music video), no reliance is needed on audio capture, albeit excellent audio monitoring at time of shoot is most certainly important for the artist’s optimum experience and performance!
High quality audio capture devices are a prerequisite however for other situations, to accurately record ambient and /or vocal audio, without waveform degradation and corruption. The post-production audio mixing and mastering benefits greatly from correctly captured and synced audio.
We at SCN Productions focus heavily on these two areas within the filming process, irrespective of scale of the project, which you can check out on our Portfolio page.
Post-Production Editing
Final Cut, Premier Pro, Avid, Davinci Resolve some of the ‘household names’ in the world of film and video editing. Without meaning any disservice to any of these fine software tools, in our experience whilst they each have their own ‘sweet spots’ and unique specialities, there is a body of the postproduction work that can be achieved successfully by these and other solutions.
It is our preference at SCN Productions to mainly rely on Davinci Resolve for video and film, due to the extensive coverage of colour grading processing functionality that it houses and specialises in.
As a production company for both audio and film services, we have the best of both worlds to create outstanding results; both the Fairlight audio processing in Davinci combined with high end quality audio processing using Harrisson Mixbus and Wavelab Pro mastering, all bases are covered.
We provide post-production services for the “in-house’ projects (filmed and/or recorded by SCN Productions) and external projects from any source footage or as re-grades or re-mixes (audio).
